Ararat Home’s Response to COVID-19 Threat
Update posted on March 16, 2020
Ararat Home has implemented several strategies to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in our resident population.
The actions being taken include: (1) strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures for all health care personnel; (2) enforcement of aggressive restrictions for all visitors.
THE ARARAT HOME ADMINISTRATION IS ENFORCING VERY STRICT LIMITATIONS ON VISITATIONS TO THE FACILITIES. This means that, in most cases, visitations are restricted, and in some cases, particularly for certain compassionate care situations, when they are absolutely necessary, visitations are allowed in limited capacity. We strongly urge our residents’ family members and friends to use alternative methods of visitation (e.g., telephone, video chat), which our staff may help facilitate. Please contact the facility directly for any questions or assistance.

This measure is absolutely necessary to protect the health and safety of our residents. More information is provided in this brief video message addressed to residents’ families and friends.
Furthermore, the Board of Trustees has postponed the Annual Membership Meeting and cancelled all other upcoming public/community gatherings on campus until further notice, including the Monthly Tuesday Luncheons and Ararat-Eskijian Museum visits.
The health, well-being and safety of our residents remains our ultimate priority. We appreciate your understanding and support.
We encourage everyone to wash your hands often and practice proper cough/sneeze etiquette. For other tips on preventative measures and for the latest information about COVID-19, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.
Ararat Home Takes Precautionary Measures Against Coronavirus Spread
Update posted on March 12, 2020
All upcoming community events on campus and visitations by community members and groups have been postponed or cancelled until further notice.
In accordance with recommendations made by local, state and national health agencies, Ararat Home is strongly discouraging all routine, social, nonessential visits by residents’ family members and friends and is restricting all visits to campus by our volunteers and supporters. This policy of limiting/restricting visitor access to our facilities and our campus has been implemented out of an abundance of caution in an effort to protect our residents from possible exposure to the virus and from the possible spread of COVID-19 among our resident population.
As part of this measure to limit/restrict visitations, Ararat Home has decided to either postpone or cancel all upcoming community events on campus. This decision extends to our Annual Membership Meeting, all other scheduled and non-scheduled meetings and visitations by community members and groups, our Monthly Tuesday Luncheons, Ararat-Eskijian Museum visits and events, Ararat Home Gift Shop operations, and all events scheduled to take place in Deukmejian Community Center.
We will notify our residents’ family members and friends, our members and our supporters when visitations and events are deemed safe to be resumed as normal on campus. In the meantime, we appreciate our supporters’ understanding, patience and cooperation with Ararat Home’s concerted efforts to protect our residents, employees and community.

In consideration of the growing number of COVID-19 cases being identified in Los Angeles County and the vulnerability of our resident population to this disease, Ararat Home’s administration has taken the proactive step of limiting all visitations within our facilities. This measure was implemented on Friday, March 6, and will be in place until further notice.
While there are no suspected cases of COVID-19 among Ararat Home residents or staff, this limitation is one of several preventative measures being implemented to protect our residents from possible exposure to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus.
The impact of COVID-19 on the elderly and on individuals with underlying health issues has been shown to be significant, and our residents are among the population at higher risk of developing serious complications from this disease. As such, Ararat Home has taken this measure of limiting all visitations out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with the recommendations of health agencies. Ensuring the health and safety of our residents is our priority and our utmost concern.
Administration and staff are strictly following all recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prevent the introduction of novel coronavirus in Ararat Home facilities. Additionally, the administration is putting procedures in place to prevent the possible spread of the virus in case it does present within the facilities. Updates and communications from local, state and federal health agencies are being closely monitored.
This limit on visitations extends to include visits by residents’ immediate family members and friends. Ararat Home strongly discourages all routine social visits and asks residents’ loved ones to defer their visits for the time being, unless their visit is essential for a resident’s care or emotional well-being. We encourage family members and friends to use alternative methods of communication to talk or virtually visit with residents.
We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of our residents’ family members and friends in adhering to this policy of limited visitations. If an individual feels that their visit is essential, Ararat Home urges them to contact facility staff prior to visiting. As always, the administration will contact family members for any significant concerns relating to a resident’s care.
Please note that access to facilities is restricted for anyone who has symptoms of respiratory illness (fever, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath) or has traveled within the last 14 days to areas where a COVID-19 outbreak has been confirmed (including communities in the United States that are exhibiting community spread).
The administration of each facility is ready to answer any questions, address any concerns, and help facilitate alternative ways individuals may connect with residents. You may contact the facilities directly.
